Was surrounded by self-portraiture and formalism, neither of which were her thing – found that time was something she liked exploring.

Fossil necklace – charting its way through time – major eras and major extinctions, into our anthropocene era – the beads are just like planets – a micro-macro correlation.

Tree time-capsule – books/manuscripts not to be read until the trees are fully grown (100 years).

Use of scent/smell to aid imagination of distant space and time – or recreating the scent on the Amazon as it is right now – incense in Japanese translates to English as to burn forest fire.

Originally didn’t consider the overlapping of art and activism in her work but later came to realise it was a crucial overlap.

One of the first works like that was putting a microphone inside a glacier that people could call and listen to – was reluctant at that time to get into activism (12 years ago).
