Pre-Crit Decisions

Found a 1964 Digest of the Year (which describes events of 1963) in a charity shop – thought it would work well with the Vietnam video, while the “Decade in Pictures” magazine would work with the 2010s video. Provides symmetry and opportunity to compare/contrast ways of documenting, ways of remembering across a 50 year span.

Multimedia installation now including video (news and amateur footage), sound (pop and protest music), text and image (book and magazine) – do I want to involve image on its own and text on its own as well? – Could fix to wall of booth and take photo for presentation at crit.

It would probably be good to incorporate all of these media forms, since part of my concept is that cultural memory is formed through multiplicity of media.

Although I am still unclear on what the concept is

Do I use “Vietnam” by Jimmy Cliff or something more obviously connected e.g. Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival?

If I had more time left I would have played Vietnam vid on one of old TVs and 2010s vid on laptop, each with headphones – then would have the two texts out to read, with two chairs for viewers to sit in – a comparison of how we receive our news from 1963-2020.
