Relationship of language to objects – signifier and signified – Thinking of the signifier as conjuring the memory of the signified.
An idea to look for objects/materials that existed before language – found rocks, water
Problem is that technically everything that currently exists is made up of chemical compounds/elements that have always existed – maybe better to think about what still exists in the form it had before language e.g. rock formations, mountains, oceans.
Found the brick interesting – a man made stone with language etched into it – eventually the word will fade/erode. Could meaning be misinterpreted? Is this object a dewar or could the word refer to something else?
Another interesting object was a piece of plastic which had come to look like stone – will plastic outlast language? Will they both outlast humans?
How much is this concerned with memory? Might be extending too far into the metaphysical
