ESW Friday

This was the day I found most interesting. I enjoyed the amount of space available, the limitation of materials as well as the collaborative element.

What was challenging in the initial tasks was trying to remain aware of intentional and unintentional processes – it was easy to post-rationalise actions when presenting as artworks to the group. The communication of a theme relating to the space was another difficulty – our installation was based around the imperfections of the space and this was not picked up on by the other group.

Working on future projects I want to remember this workshop and how within a small amount of time, with limited resources a group of people can produce interesting/striking installations. It’s interesting what can arise from silent collaborative responses, and spontaneous decisions – case in point is the chair and teepee arrangement directed at the opposing space. I remember turning round and immediately feeling a sense of confrontation.

There are opportunities to take forward what we made today into gallery or public participatory works.
