Draw Sculpt Draw Sculpt Draw Sculpt Draw Sculpt Draw Sculpt Draw Sculpt Draw
15 minute observation walk
Paper (two tones), paper straws, masking tape, electrical tape, scissors, double-sided tape, glue
Final sculpture added materials: card, wire
Helped us to think about how sculptures exist in space – the idea that the properties of an object define the space around it.
How to respond to and take from drawings and sculptures without representing them.
Considering the properties of different materials – for structure, weight, bonds, line, flexibility.
Missed the first three hours so started behind – found the bridging between drawing-sculpture-drawing difficult to understand, same with the idea of forms defining space – how is that something I can think about? Is it not just something that is, it’s instinct?
Pleased with final sculpture – intersecting planes means different composition from each angle – pockets of space defined by planes of card which might be interesting to thread wire or string through – simplicity of material and structure – potential for kinetic sculpture
Was perhaps conservative with materials, not exploring/learning properties of glue, wire, paper for example
Overcomplicated things at times
